国際化社会と呼ばれるようになった現在、日本人の英会話力は諸外国に比べて低いと言われています。
そこで、国際社会でのコミュニケーション能力の向上に欠かせない”英会話”に特化した取り組みが”Eカフェ”です。
教育施設である青少年センターに、外国人スタッフが待機し、いつでも英会話ができるような場所があれば、
青少年が英語文化に触れる機会を創ることができます。
また、「留学経験があり、帰国してからも英会話能力を維持したい」と思っている人たちにも役立ちます。
できるだけ、気軽にふれあうことができるよう、”カフェのような雰囲気のある場所”を創ることで実現しようと
するものです。
時にはコーヒーやお茶を飲みながら、利用に来た学生たちに積極的に話しかけ、その人のレベルに応じた英語での
会話を心掛けます。

Though the arrival of globalized society has been stressed for a long time, English speaking skill of Japanese people is said to be relatively poor compared with that of other countries.
We therefore are starting E-Café as a project which specializes in “English conversation”, an indispensable tool to develop communication skill in this internationalized society.
As the Youth Center is the educational institution, and if we could make a place where an English speaking staff is there to meet the young people and enjoy conversations with them, we will be able to create great opportunities for the young people to be exposed to English culture.
Also, it should be useful and meaningful for those who have experience of studying abroad and thinking about keeping their English ability acquired in foreign countries.
However it might be not easy to make an atmosphere that everybody can join the conversations or dialogs in a positive way without any ice-breaker. Then we have decided to provide “a place where you can enjoy café like atmosphere” to realize our wish. Sometimes we will offer tea or coffee for free, and the English speaking staff will be speaking friendlily to the young people with consideration for their own English levels.
